This season, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York happened alongside NBA All-Star Weekend, and the relationship between sports and style grew even deeper. Not only did athletes maintain their status as front row fixtures, but many took the opportunity to launch their own collaborations and campaigns, host events, and rub elbows with the fashion industry elite.

Russell Westbrook is adding to his long list of off-court style credentials with a new role in the fashion world. True Religion, has tapped the Oklahoma City Thunder guard as the creative director the company’s Spring ’15 apparel campaign. He will also serve as the face of the campaign, modeling the brand’s latest denim designs.
This year, the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend festivities will coincide with Mercedes-Benz Fashion in New York. Westbrook’s new gig will put him at the center of this overlap. According to Style.com:

Ahead of Super Bowl XLIX, the NFL rolled out the red carpet for the NFL Honors show. It provided an opportunity for the league’s fashion-conscious stars to shed their gridiron garb and show off their style and swagger. The large frames of NFL athletes didn’t hinder their fashion game, as players were styled in plaid patterns, colorful jackets, and classic tuxedos. Marshawn Lynch is among the NFL stars who has developed a signature clothing line as an extension of his personal brand. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, Dez Bryant, has turned his “Throw Up the X” touchdown celebration into a collection of men’s and women’s apparel. The NFL Style Lounge will touch down in Phoenix, in honor of Super Bowl XLIX. Throughout the season, the league has celebrated style. The NFL Fan Style Tour visited stadiums and other locations around the country, showcasing the newest crop of team-themed fashions.
The 30,000 square foot Super Bowl XLIX shop, presented by VISA, will feature dedicated Super Bowl XLIX merchandise, as well as head-to-head styles. A purple and orange colorway is prominently featured on the designs, and was inspired by the Phoenix sunsets.
The NFL Style Lounge opens on Saturday, January 24th, and is located at Phoenix Convention Center’s North Building.

David Beckham’s role with H&M has evolved each season. He’s previously developed bodywear and swim wear for the retailer. The latest collaboration, dubbed “Modern Essentials selected by David Beckham,” will feature a curated selection of styles.
“My relationship with H&M continues to grow. Something I’m really excited about is my selection of items. Things I wear day-to-day, shirts, t-shirts, jeans, bomber jackets. It’s literally stuff I wear day in and day out,” Beckham said.
“Modern Essentials selected by David Beckham” will include his favorite H&M menswear pieces. Among the featured items will be a linen pilot jacket, a white chalk-washed denim jacket, a car coat, a linen blazer, a city-slicker polo shirt, and the perfect white poplin shirt. The line will be released to coincide with Beckham’s new Bodywear range. Both collections will launch worldwide in stores and online on March 5, 2015.

The NHL has unveiled fresh new jersey designs from Reebok, for the 2015 All-Star Game. The black home jerseys and white away jerseys each feature pops of neon green trim. The bold color choice, dubbed “elite green,” is new to the NHL fashion game.
This was a fresher spin and a color that is unique,” lead NHL Reebok designer Dominic Fillion said. “No other team owns this color so that was unique and it complemented very well the black and white while bringing a great accent with high visibility. We wanted something energetic and bright enough that it would stand out and grab your attention.
“We wanted something that fans hadn’t seen on an NHL uniform before.”

Steph Curry joins the roster of NBA athletes who serve as the face of a fashion company. EXPRESS has signed the Golden State Warriors guard as a brand ambassador. Beginning in March 2015, Curry will appear in campaigns for the retailer.
