This season, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York happened alongside NBA All-Star Weekend, and the relationship between sports and style grew even deeper. Not only did athletes maintain their status as front row fixtures, but many took the opportunity to launch their own collaborations and campaigns, host events, and rub elbows with the fashion industry elite.

Russell Westbrook is adding to his long list of off-court style credentials with a new role in the fashion world. True Religion, has tapped the Oklahoma City Thunder guard as the creative director the company’s Spring ’15 apparel campaign. He will also serve as the face of the campaign, modeling the brand’s latest denim designs.
This year, the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend festivities will coincide with Mercedes-Benz Fashion in New York. Westbrook’s new gig will put him at the center of this overlap. According to Style.com:

It provided an opportunity for the league’s fashion-conscious stars to shed their gridiron garb and show off their style and swagger. The 2015 NBA All-Star game will tip off in New York City, and one of the league’s most fashion-savvy stars is celebrating the festivities with the launch of a special-edition accessory. Russell Westbrook’s signature eyewear brand, Westbrook Frames, has announced an exclusive, limited-edition collaboration with the NBA. The All Star Series collection of shades was designed and curated by Westbrook.
The line is divided into “East Coast” and “West Coast” styles, featuring white and black frames respectively. Both designs are are offered with three different lens color options, in blue, red, and gold. The frames are also adorned with “BKN*NYK” on one side and graphics on the opposite side. The All-Star Series sunglasses retail for $175.00.

The Brooklyn Nets recently revealed “Stars and Stripes” alternate uniforms, meant to pay homage to the team’s rich history. The gear is a throwback to the ABA Nets’ “Stars and Stripes” uniform worn from 1972-1976. To coincide with the uniform launch, the Brooklynettes dance team is hosting a “Fashion Face-Off” competition.
The Brooklynettes have enlisted tri-state area fashion design students, to help create a new look for the team. Designs must be black and white, contain the word “NETS,” reflect the Brooklyn “Stars and Stripes uniform,” and draw inspiration from the Brooklynettes current costume collection, which boasts an edgy yet sophisticated vibe.
The top three designs will be featured on brooklynnets.com, where fans will be able to vote for their favorite fashions. The apparel will be produced by costume designer, David Dalrymple, and will hit the hardwood at the Barclays Center, during the 2014-15 NBA season. … Read More »
Fans are gearing up for Super Bowl XLIX and Hourglass Footwear is helping Seattle Seahawks supporters put their most fashion feet forward ahead of the big game. The Seattle-based company describes its mission to “help our customers express their unique style and personality through original, hand-painted footwear designed and created by an experienced, talented team of artists.” Among the custom creations is a “12th Woman” collection.
The line features a variety of shoe styles, including platforms, stilettos, mid-heels, flats, and clogs. Each design is hand-painted in Seahawks-inspired hues, and decorated with embellishments like the number “12” and bling. Prices range from $180 for flats to $325 for platforms with bling. The NFL Style Lounge will touch down in Phoenix, in honor of Super Bowl XLIX. Throughout the season, the league has celebrated style. The NFL Fan Style Tour visited stadiums and other locations around the country, showcasing the newest crop of team-themed fashions.
The 30,000 square foot Super Bowl XLIX shop, presented by VISA, will feature dedicated Super Bowl XLIX merchandise, as well as head-to-head styles. A purple and orange colorway is prominently featured on the designs, and was inspired by the Phoenix sunsets.
The NFL Style Lounge opens on Saturday, January 24th, and is located at Phoenix Convention Center’s North Building.

Miss Universe pageant contestants pay homage to their nations through their fashion choices. The national costume round features intricately designed outfits, with detailed elements meant to represent their home country. Miss Universe Canada contestant, Chanel Beckenlehner, celebrated hockey culture in Canada, at the 63rd Annual Miss Universe Preliminary Show.

The hockey-themed national costume tapped into all aspects of the game, from a skirt made of netting and custom knee-high skates, to hockey sticks, a scoreboard, and Stanley Cup trophy headwear.
