Nike often introduces special swag for their athletes before each golf tournament and now the brand has unveiled limited edition Lunar Control shoes for the U.S. Open. For the past four years, MLB teams have been wearing specially designed baseball caps to commemorate Memorial Day and honor America’s veterans. During games this past weekend, players sported the latest “Stars & Stripes” hats from New Era, the official on-field cap of Major League Baseball. The headwear (which will also be worn on July 4th and September 11th) featured the American Flag etched into the team’s logo as well as a patriotic red, white and blue color scheme. This effort is done in support of the Welcome Back Veterans fund, an organization that provides support to veterans and their families when they come home from war.

In the 1970’s, Lacoste became the first brand to sponsor the French Open at Roland Garros. But the roots of the crocodile logo extend back to the game of professional tennis in the 1920’s. Company founder Rene Lacoste, a world-class tennis player from France, won the French Open in 1925, 1927 and 1929. The 2011 French Open is upon us and there is already some fierce competition on the fashion front. Each tennis Grand Slam is met with a new crop of on-court fashions that often cause as much buzz as the game itself. Last year at Roland Garros, the focus surrounded Venus Williams and her risque, Moulin Rouge-inspired ensemble. With both Williams sisters out of the tournament this year, the outfits will likely be much more subdued. But don’t expect to see plain old tennis whites. The San Diego Chargers have teamed up with Quiksilver, one of the world’s largest surfwear manufacturers, on a new collection of NFL boardshorts. The Chargers-themed trunks will hit the Chargers store, chargers.com and local surf and Quiksilver shops beginning the week of June 1st. (via @Chargers).

Richard Leeds International has signed a licensing agreement with the NBA and London-based company, Chorion, to produce a collection of sleepwear, loungewear and intimates featuring NBA team colors and logos. According to WWD, the deal also includes a co-branding contract with the Little Miss and Mr. Men apparel program.
