For the past four years, MLB teams have been wearing specially designed baseball caps to commemorate Memorial Day and honor America’s veterans. During games this past weekend, players sported the latest “Stars & Stripes” hats from New Era, the official on-field cap of Major League Baseball. The headwear (which will also be worn on July 4th and September 11th) featured the American Flag etched into the team’s logo as well as a patriotic red, white and blue color scheme. This effort is done in support of the Welcome Back Veterans fund, an organization that provides support to veterans and their families when they come home from war.

New Era’s “Stars and Stripes” caps tradition actually began with the help of the New York Mets. Team owner, Fred Wilpon, was looking for a way incorporate a league-wide charity into the game to benefit United … Read More »

In the 1970’s, Lacoste became the first brand to sponsor the French Open at Roland Garros. But the roots of the crocodile logo extend back to the game of professional tennis in the 1920’s. Company founder Rene Lacoste, a world-class tennis player from France, won the French Open in 1925, 1927 and 1929. He had already been establishing a Lacoste presence well in advance of the official sponsorship, wearing the famous polos each time he played. After requests from other players, the company began producing the tennis polos. In the 40 years since, the crocodile fashions have become iconic on the court, with top players like Andy Roddick showing his support for the brand.

To celebrate 40 years at Roland Garros, the brand has released a variety of limited edition fashions which are meant to honor the link between the crocodile … Read More »

The 2011 French Open is upon us and there is already some fierce competition on the fashion front. Each tennis Grand Slam is met with a new crop of on-court fashions that often cause as much buzz as the game itself. Last year at Roland Garros, the focus surrounded Venus Williams and her risque, Moulin Rouge-inspired ensemble. With both Williams sisters out of the tournament this year, the outfits will likely be much more subdued. But don’t expect to see plain old tennis whites. The attire from Nike and adidas is bold and bright and both brands have chosen looks that will best compliment the coloring of the red clay courts.

French Open play begins on Sunday, May 22nd. Here’s a look at the styles your favorite players will be sporting when they take center court:

In 2010, Americans spent more than $30 million on women’s fitness clothing, a 2 percent increase over the previous year. Fitness brands are continuing to focus on fashions that are feminine, form-fitting and versatile enough to take wearers from the their workout through the rest of their day. At the same time, brands are ensuring that function is not compromised.

Over the past few years, the sportswear trend has made a comeback on the fashion runways as well. Couture designers have infused sport influences into their collections and the resulting styles offer a sense of athletic luxury to even the biggest fashionistas. As the sportswear market continues to grow, companies are catering to women’s demands for fashion-forward sportswear options. Fila Skeletoes are the latest addition to the generation of footwear that has been dubbed the “minimalist shoe.” Or perhaps you might be more familiar with the term “toe shoes.” The newest member of Fila’s footwear family launched in February and despite a variety of barefoot shoes already in existence, the brand is taking a different approach to this ever-growing footwear trend.

Companies are continuing to challenge traditional footwear with designs that mimic the benefits of being barefoot. Vibram Five Fingers have been the leader in the toe shoe category and though comparisons are inevitable, the Skeletoes are not intended to be a direct competitor or a replacement. Carving out their own niche within the minimalist shoe market, Fila’s new kicks are a more economical alternative. And unlike Vibram, they are not designed for running. Meant to serve as a lifestyle shoe, the … Read More »
