ADIDAS & THE NBA UNVEIL 2013 ALL-STAR JERSEYS

The 2013 NBA All-Star game is set to take place in Houston, Texas on February 17th. Once again this year, the apparel worn by the game’s biggest stars takes design inspiration from the host city. In this case, it’s Houston’s “aeronautical history and the speed of the jet planes that dot its skies” that is reflected in the uniform aesthetics.

 “2013 marks adidas’ sixth season designing NBA All-Star uniforms and every year we look forward to introducing performance innovations that help the best basketball players in the world lift off and take their games to the next level in front of a global audience,” said Lawrence Norman, adidas Vice President, Global Basketball.

GAME, SET, STYLE: 2013 AUSTRALIAN OPEN FASHION PREVIEW

The first Grand Slam of the season is underway in Melbourne, giving players an opportunity to debut their 2013 tennis fashions. Apparel trends in the sport continue to mirror those in the fashion world. Bright colors, bold patterns, feminine details, form-fitting silhouettes and light-weight fabrics will play prominently into the styles seen down under and throughout the year.

The tennis world experienced several clothing sponsor shake-ups as players began the new year with new gear. Julia Goerges made the move from Nike to Fila, joining the latter as a new brand ambassador. It’s now the off-season for Victor Cruz and the New York Giants WR has wasted no time putting the focus back on his fashion game. Cruz traveled to Milan as part of Men’s Fashion Week. He’ll get a head start on the Autumn/Winter 2013 menswear trends, helping to maintain his status as one of the league’s top dressers. He took to twitter to showcase a Marcelo Burton tee, Balenciaga sneakers and an Audemars Piguet wristwatch, one of his off-field ensembles while in Milan:

The star receiver joined actor, Justin Theroux, in the front row at the Calvin Klein Collection Fall 2013 menswear show. U.S. OLYMPIANS TRADE GOLD MEDALS FOR GOLDEN GLOBES

Team USA’s golden girls and guys traded their patriotic threads for designer fashions at last night’s Golden Globe awards. Since the completion of the London Games, several Olympic athletes have remained in the style spotlight. They were coveted front row fixtures at New York Fashion Week in September, they’ve graced the covers of men’s and women’s fashion magazines, and some have begun the process of designing their own clothing lines. ICEBERG DESIGNS DANILO GALLINARI’S OFF-COURT WARDROBE

Danilo Gallinari is keeping pace in a league full of fashion-forward players. Italian luxury fashion house, Iceberg, will outfit Gallinari this NBA season. The company, which is part of the Gilmar group, has designed a series of off-court outfits for the Denver Nuggets small forward.

“Danilo offers a fresh take on versatility, a fine balance between modern bespoke and cool casual style. Danilo is an international emblem of excellence in his field, just as Iceberg is in the realm of Italian fashion. When we met we hit it off immediately, that’s always an excellent premise for a successful partnership,” said Gilmar CEO Paolo Gerani.

LIONEL MESSI PICKS A POLKA DOT TUX FOR BALLON D’OR CEREMONY

Lionel Messi accepted his record fourth Ballon d’Or award dressed in a black and white, polka dot patterned tux from Dolce & Gabbana. He scored an incredible 91 goals in 2012 but failed to score sartorially, as the ensemble sparked critiques in the eyes of fashion fans and sports fans. Despite the less than favorable feedback, the Daily Mail’s online fashion editor praised the look here. The publication also described Messi’s outfit in greater detail:

The tailored blazer was designed exclusively for Messi by Dolce and Gabbana, the label with whom he has a sponsorship deal.

It was a one-button black silk tuxedo with white polka dots and black satin lapels, according to the official description.
