FASHION DESIGNERS CUSTOMIZE BRAZUCA WORLD CUP SOCCER BALLS FOR CHARITY
Earlier this year, couture-themed football helmets were created in celebration of Super Bowl XLVIII. In similar fashion, a range of high-end designers have put their aesthetic spin on soccer balls, to coincide with the World Cup. LUISAVIAROMA.com, an online luxury fashion destination, teamed up with adidas and top designers on the charitable collaboration. The fashion houses customized the Brazuca, the official match ball of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The participating designers include Balmain, Dolce & Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, Etro, Giuseppe Zanotti, MCM, Missoni, Rick Owens, Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo, Viktor & Rolf, and more. The soccer balls double as works of art, as gold metal plates, snakeskin, sequins, rhinestones, embroidery, and reconstructed jerseys were among the materials used as decoration. As LUISAVIAROMA.com explained:
These masterpieces will be auctioned on eBay, starting in June and continuing throughout the World Cup Finals. All proceeds will be donated to the Gol de Letra Foundation, whose mission is to improve living conditions for children in the Brazilian favelas through Art, Culture, Education and Sports.
