CARL HAGELIN TALKS STYLE AND TAILORED SUITS WITH MEN’S FITNESS
Playing hockey in New York has afforded Carl Hagelin the opportunity to upgrade his style. Along with his New York Rangers teammates, he’s attended Fashion Week shows and worked with top designers. When discussing his evolved fashion sense since being in New York, he previously told 5th at 58th:
“I’m starting to pay better attention to what I wear, as the shopping in NYC is insane. Really in to brands like J. Lindeberg, Hugo Boss & Burberry right now. And I went to my first fashion show this last season, Joseph Abboud, which was great — a lot of color, which I like.”
Most recently, Hagelin and his teammates dressed up for the squad’s annual Casino Night. The Rangers star settled on a midnight blue tux from J. Lindeberg for the evening. He spoke fashion with Men’s Fitness magazine at the Casino Night benefit, where he dished on his personal style, hair tips, tailored suits, and his best-dressed teammate. For the full piece, read on here. Below are a few excerpts.
How would you describe your personal style?
A classic European style. I like to wear tight jeans. Most of my stuff is pretty slim fit. We wear suits before and after every game. At a dinner with the guys on the team, I like to wear nice jeans and some desert boots. Growing up in Europe, tight clothing is pretty standard. When I got to college, clothes were loose so I was going toward more loose stuff. As soon as I got back to New York, I started wearing suits 25% of the year. Then, I realized how important it is for the suit to really fit you and be tight. Traveling to different parts of the world—Sweden, Michigan, New York—has helped develop my style.
What are your essential style tips?
For guys who are into fitness, I think it’s important to wear slim-fit stuff that is pretty tight so they can show off the bodies they have been working hard to have. Women are going to appreciate that.
