KEEPING SCORE: ATHLETES ATTEND MERCEDES BENZ FASHION WEEK IN NEW YORK

Fashions from across the globe have been on full display, as athletes showcase sporting styles at the Winter Olympic games in Sochi. At the same time, fashion houses have revealed the newest Fall/Winter 2014 collections, as part of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.

A wide array of sports stars continue to make plays for fashion, lining front rows and vying for the spotlight with their showtime sartorial choices. As another season comes to a close, A Glam Slam breaks down the athletes who appeared at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York:

The Heart Truth Red Dress Fashion Show tapped famous female faces to walk the runway, in place of fashion models. The show is meant to raise awareness for heart disease, and has each of the women donning red designs. An injury kept Lindsey Vonn out of the Winter Games in Sochi, but not off the catwalk. Clad in Cynthia Rowley with crutches in tow, the Olympic skier was able to participate in the fashion show. Joining Vonn was fellow Olympian and figure skater, Sasha Cohen, who modeled a gown with a plunging neckline from Marc Bouwer.

Philadelphia Eagles WR, Brad Smith, was once again a strong sports presence throughout the week. Among the stops on his fashion week roster were Hugo Boss, as well as Nautica, where he sat up close with San Diego Chargers LB, Andrew Gachkar.

Prior to the Kenneth Cole runway show, Smith had an opportunity to interview the designer, as he continues his Men’s Health magazine reporting duties.

Additionally, Smith celebrated the winning designer, Kassie Haji, from his “Design for Brad Smith” competition. Haji accompanied him to events throughout Fashion Week, and is set to have her look produced. An event to honor the contest and its winner was held at Windsor Custom, beneath The Ainsworth in NYC. Below is a shot of the designer and one of her winning sketches:

Fellow Eagles footballer, Mychal Kendricks, had a front row seat at the Concept Korea fashion show. Mark McNairy was also among his stops, as he worked to broaden his fashion game.

Also included in his weekly lineup was a trip to Berluti, to celebrate the opening of the brand’s first U.S. store. He then viewed the latest collection from his designer pals at Public School NYC.

Cruz was joined by New York Knicks teammates Amar’e Stoudemire and J.R. Smith at the En 1 Noir show. Despite the apparel that paraded down the runway, Stoudemire’s ensemble was certainly a highlight. His look included a fur hooded vest and a nod to his Jewish heritage, in the form of a gold menorah chain necklace.
