HEAT TEAMMATES CHRIS “BIRDMAN” ANDERSEN & UDONIS HASLEM SCORE PSD UNDERWEAR GIG
Miami Heat teammates Chris “Birdman” Andersen and Udonis Haslem are the latest athletes to join the underwear game. This past year, Cristiano Ronaldo teamed up with NY-based fashion designer, Richard Chai, to launch his own signature line of skivvies. Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook partnered up with Kings & Jaxs, to model the company’s underwear and offer creative and design input. Andersen and Haslem have now added “underwear model’ to their repertoire as well.
The brand is PSD, and they are known for their colorful designs and bold graphic patterns. Memphis Grizzles’ Mike Miller became a partner in the company and turned his former teammates on to the fashions.
“This is all Mike Miller’s doing,” Andersen told the Sun Sentinel. “He’s kind of just using the theme of my tattoos and everything for the design of the underwear. I was just messing around and I just called it free-Birding.”
In addition to modeling, Andersen is also set to debut his own line, which will be available at LeBron James’ store, UNKNWN.
“Birdman’s signature line releases in January,” PSD co-founder Curt Flaitz said, “and we talked about the main headline probably winding up being, ‘I’m an underwear model.’ “
“Birdman is a character,” Flaitz said. “We always say we handle biz, but we have fun. He’s on a championship team, he’s a good athlete, but he expresses his style. It’s an expression through fashion. His signature line is all his tattoos on a pair of underwear. It’s identical. It’s his tattoos. It says ‘Free Bird.’
