RAJON RONDO TALKS STYLE IN NEW AMERICAN EXPRESS & NBA “OFF THE COURT” DIGITAL FEATURE
American Express and the NBA have teamed up on a first-of-its-kind digital destination on NBA.com, dubbed “Off the Court.” The new feature will highlight players’ personal passions, pursuits and interests outside the game, in an effort to engage fans in a unique way and offer a deeper connection to the league’s stars. The first installment of “Off The Court” focuses on Boston Celtics point guard, Rajon Rondo, and his passion: style.
Fashion has become an integral part of the game and Rondo is one of many players across the league with a vested interest in the industry. In the sartorial arena, he’s evolved from “dressing big” when he first came into the NBA, to making headlines for his fashion choices. Within the featured video, Rondo credits his Summer 2011 internship at GQ magazine as helping to step up his style. Below are a few excerpts from his “Off the Court” spotlight:
On his personal style:
“My look off-the-court is collegiate fresh. A lot of plaids, varsity jackets. Pretty much solid, simple, clean.”
On his infamous post-game jacket worn during NBA Playoffs:
“We actually picked that jacket up here in New York City. I wore it the Atlanta game, of the playoff series. And I got a lot of heat on that jacket, but I thought it was a fly jacket. Obviously the world didn’t like it, but I kind of dress for myself and that’s why I went with it. I think it’s kind of helped me really, as far as me being into fashion. I make the clothes, the clothes don’t make me.”

This new, online destination will additionally serve as the new exclusive home to NBA.com’s marquee blog, Hang Time, and will host content from the popular All Ball and 10 Before Tip blogs. This content, along with all of the other features of “Off the Court,” will also be optimized for mobile devices.
