RALPH LAUREN UNVEILS TEAM USA CLOSING CEREMONY OLYPMIC FASHIONS
To celebrate the 100 days countdown until the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Ralph Lauren has unveiled the Closing Ceremony parade fashions for Team USA. Following London’s “Made in China” fashion debacle, the latest uniforms, including the opening and closing ceremony uniforms and Olympic Village gear, were Made in the USA.
As AP reports, more than 40 vendors were used, from ranchers in the rural West to yarn spinners in Pennsylvania to sewers in New York’s Garment District. This year’s Olympians will be styled in an ensemble that includes a navy peacoat with a thick red stripe, a chunky ski sweater with a Winter-themed reindeer design, and a knit cap. The items are in line with the fashion house’s classic, all-American design aesthetic. Figure skater, Evan Lysacek, commented on the new team threads explaining:
“As an athlete, the clothing means even more than you’d think. The training, the sacrifices, the lifestyle, which is not glamorous and can be grueling and trying at times, all seem to come together in the moment when you realize you are part of the Olympic team,” he said. “The moment you put on those first pieces of the American team clothes, you feel like it’s real.”
