NBA uniforms have been making fashion waves, as short-sleeve jerseys are set to hit the hardwood. The Golden State Warriors first debuted the adidas designed threads last season. This year will have multiple teams wearing the updated uniform style. The Los Angeles Lakers are among the squads that will sport short-sleeve jerseys in several games this season. In addition to adopting the sleeve system of dress, the team’s wardrobe has expanded to include a new alternate jersey as well.

The Lakers officially unveiled their “Hollywood Nights” uniforms, to be worn for select games this season. The on-court attire will not feature sleeves, but will boast a black color scheme. The new jerseys join the traditional purple and gold and the whites, which were introduced in 2002-03. Lakers fans desired a black uniform and according to the organization, this fan interest prompted the decision. Executive VP, Business Operations, Jeanie Buss, described the team’s new fashions in the video below, explaining:

“This has been a few years in the process of introducing a black Lakers uniform. In no way will it ever replace the purple and gold traditional uniform that has seen so many championships won. I think the gold is going to pop out on a black uniform and having the purple letters says it all. It’s all Lakers. Hollywood is also a really hard-working town. That’s the major industry of this city and it’s the heartbeat. Hollywood nights is a tribute to all those people.”
