PHILADELPHIA EAGLES CHEERLEADERS TO DEBUT VERA WANG DESIGNED UNIFORMS
This season, the NFL has put the spotlight on high-fashion football designs for female fans, and the league’s cheerleaders will follow suit. It was first announced that Alex and Ani partnered with the New York Patriots, to become the official title sponsor of the Patriots Cheerleaders. As part of the deal, the Patriots Cheerleaders will be sporting the Alex and Ani logo on all of their warmup suits and select uniforms, and wear exclusive bangle sets representing the team’s colors. Now the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders are set to debut newly-designed, signature uniforms from Vera Wang.
Wang is known for her iconic wedding designs, but she’s also had a hand in developing athletic fashions. A former figure skater herself, she has created outfits for Olympic skaters including Nancy Kerrigan and Evan Lysacek. Her sports-inspired design efforts also extend to the NFL. The Eagles Cheerleaders first introduced Vera Wang uniforms in 2003, becoming the first squad to be outfitted by an internationally famed designer.
“It was an honor to create the uniform design that has now become synonymous with the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders. I always embrace the opportunity to work on extensions of my original creations and enjoyed designing new signature pieces for the beautiful and talented cheerleaders to wear this year,” Wang said.
The revamped on-field fashions include crop tops, warm-up jackets, boy shorts and leggings, in the team’s black, white and green hues. Christina Weiss Lurie, President Eagles Youth Partnership and Eagles Social Responsibility, played an integral role in all aspects of the uniform designs and described them as “cutting-edge” and “chic while displaying athleticism.” According to the team:
The new signature pieces will be unveiled throughout the course of the season and encapsulate the Eagles brand with the incorporation of logo motifs and more midnight green into the modern, sleek designs. The squad will be dressed entirely in Vera Wang, as the designer also custom made a black sparkle sneaker for the squad to wear with their uniforms for a finishing touch to the contemporary and distinctive look.
The Eagles cheerleaders will debut their gridiron gear during the team’s home opener on Sunday. Below is a preview:
