VICTOR CRUZ NAMED “MOST STYLISH ATHLETE” AT 10TH ANNUAL STYLE AWARDS
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York kicked off last night with the 10th Annual Style Awards. Each year, the event honors the sartorial talents of celebrities, designers, athletes and fashion industry professionals. The 2013 honorees were chosen by the Style Awards’ Nominating Committee and Style Committee, which is comprised of a range of individuals in the entertainment and fashion communities. The Style Awards will air on CNN on September 14th, at 7 p.m.
Athletes who play in the Big Apple are often forced to keep up their fashion game. Last year’s top style honors were awarded to New York Rangers goaltender, Henrik Lundqvist. This year, the torch has been passed to Victor Cruz. The New York Giants wide receiver now holds the title of “Most Stylish Athlete of the Year.”
With the help of his stylist, Rachel Johnson, Cruz has quickly become one of the NFL’s best-dressed players. He’s made a name for himself among the fashion elite, with endless access to top designers. He’s become a front row fixture at Fashion Week shows and he’s graced the pages of countless men’s fashion magazines. During last night’s ceremony, Cruz was dapperly dressed in a burgundy suit and black dress shirt, accessorized with a rose lapel pin.
Among the other athletes in attendance at the Style Awards was New York Knicks forward, Amar’e Stoudemire, who also works with Johnson. Stoudemire was one of the committee members responsible for choosing this year’s honorees. He showcased his own style chops, dressed in a midnight blue suit, black skinny tie, and thick-rimmed specs.
Maria Sharapova was also on hand to present an award, wearing a top and skirt from Preen, with Christian Louboutin pumps.
