GQ magazine has tapped another fashionable footballer to front its September 2013 issue. Previous NFL cover stars have included Mark SanchezCam Newton and Tim Tebow. Washington Redskins quarterback, Robert Griffin III, adorns this year’s “NFL Kickoff” issue. He’s dressed in team hues, in the form of a red, $725 Dolce & Gabbana henley.

In addition to his gridiron success, RGIII has quickly climbed the NFL style ranks. He’s best-known for his signature sock game and he already graced the pages of the men’s fashion glossy last season. Even a change in his hairstyle has become breaking news. The topic of his appearance was tackled in the GQ cover story:

RG3 and his mom have a long-running tradition. Every week during football season, normally on Thursday or Friday, he sits down in front of her and she braids his hair. “In the military, it was very important that you kept your appearance neat and tidy,” says Jackie. “You don’t want him to be all messed up. You want him to look nice and neat and putting his best foot forward.”

Within the article, RGIII also opens up about the injury following his rookie season, his rehabilitation process, advice he would give to Bryce Harper, and former ESPN analyst, Rob Parker. For the full cover story, read on here.

The corresponding photo shoot merges high-fashion and football, as RGIII poses on-field in menswear designs from Tom Ford, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Alexander Wang. In the shot below, a red motorcycle jacket by BLK DNM and sunglasses from John Varvatos are paired with the bottom half of his Redskins uniform and adidas cleats.

Joining RGIII as GQ’s September cover star is San Francisco 49’ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick. Within the featured piece, he discussed his family background, his buzzed about tattoos, and last season’s Super Bowl run. To accompany the story, he also showed off his fashion sense, modeling a range of men’s Fall styles.
