NFL SPONSORS “SAVVY GIRL’S GUIDE TO FOOTBALL” IN MARIE CLAIRE SEPTEMBER ISSUE
The NFL continues its efforts to appeal to the female demographic and fashion remains at the forefront of the process. A dedicated women’s apparel campaign and in-stadium “style lounges” are among the forums for showcasing the merchandise offerings for women. Over the past few years, the league has also increased its presence within fashion magazines.
The beginning of football season coincides with the biggest time of year for fashion publications. September issues are the largest and most highly-anticipated, and the NFL is taking full advantage. Marie Claire will include a 16-page insert, sponsored by the NFL and dubbed “The Savvy Girl’s Guide to Football.” Former Friday Night Lights actress, Minka Kelly, covers the magazine supplement, which includes six pages of ads for the league’s women’s apparel line as well as football focused content. According to Ad Age:
The guide represents the increasingly collaborative relationship between the editorial and business sides of publishing. The editorial team at Marie Claire produced the content, which includes tips on hosting a Super Bowl party and a guide to “quarterback bromances,” on its own.
Additional fashion magazines such as Vogue and Cosmopolitan, will feature the newest round of NFL apparel ads as well. Marie Claire’s September issue hits newsstands this week.
