CAROLINA PANTHERS ’12 ALTERNATES VOTED “GREATEST UNIFORM IN NFL HISTORY”
Sports fans have high sartorial standards when it comes to team uniforms. From a slight color tweak to a complete design overhaul, fans can get pretty passionate about their team’s apparel. Dave Dameshek, also known as the “Uniform Monitor,” created a bracket composed of each NFL team’s current uniform, and his favorite throwback picks for each franchise. Throughout the month of July, fans had the opportunity to cast their vote to determine the “Greatest Uniform in NFL History.”
Voting has ended and the Carolina Panthers have received the NFL’s top fashion honors. The team’s 2012 alternate uniforms were named the “Greatest Uniform in NFL History.” The result might surprise football fans, as several iconic, football fashion favorites were included in the group. The Panthers began as a No. 15 seed, yet the black-on-black gear was deemed the winning style.
The final round had the San Francisco 49’ers current uniforms pitted against the Panthers ’12 alternates. Carolina won by a landslide, with 1,132,363 votes to the 49’ers 113,367. The winning combination of black jerseys, black pants and electric blue socks came from Nike. The brand took over for Reebok as the NFL’s official uniform provider in 2012.
