RUSSELL WESTBROOK WINS NBA SOCIAL MEDIA “TRENDSETTER AWARD”
The NBA launched its first ever Social Media Awards last year and the league continues to celebrate its involvement in the social world. The 2013 winners were announced yesterday on NBA TV, in 11 new categories. Included among them was the “Trendsetter Award.” It’s no surprise that style was a featured area, as fashion is a large part of NBA culture. The Playoffs in particular have sparked an added rivalry among the NBA’s elite, in their efforts to achieve sartorial splendor.
Russell Westbrook was the “Trendsetter Award” winner, recognized for his style on and off-the-court. The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard has shown up for games wearing everything from wildly printed shirts to leather motorcycle pants to his signature lensless glasses. He’s been dubbed “the Kate Moss of the NBA” within the fashion industry and he continues to experiment with his post-game style.
Westbrook scored 31% of the “Trendsetter Award” vote, beating out a fashionable group of competitors. Other nominees for the best social styling of the year included: Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and James Harden. Here’s a breakdown of the final standings:
