ADIDAS UNVEILS RETRO COLLEGE WORLD SERIES UNIS FOR LOUISVILLE, MISSISSIPPI STATE, NC STATE
In college sports, the field, the court and the ice have come to double as a fashion runway, showcasing each school’s endless array of uniform combinations. Tweaks to helmets, jerseys and pants are numerous, as major apparel companies like Nike, adidas and Under Armour unveil trendy, and at times visually shocking, redesigns from week to week.
The concept of experimenting with team gear is most prevalent in college football and basketball. A growing number of squads attempt to put a unique style spin on standard school designs. With the College World Series Super Regionals underway, baseball teams are now getting into the on-field fashion conversation. Adidas has styled three sponsored schools, Louisville, Mississippi State and NC State, in classic new looks.
Adidas last made waves for its 2013 March Madness adizero uniforms. The gear was bold, in particular the Zubaz-inspired print on the shorts. In sharp contrast, they took the retro-route for the college baseball threads, a concept often popular with fans. Louisville’s colorful, striped jerseys have been likened to the 1970’s Houston Astros uniforms, while NC State’s vintage digs have been compared to throwback Chicago White Sox jerseys.
