BUBBA WATSON DISHES ON PERSONAL STYLE, STATEMENT SOCKS & OAKLEY WITH ESQUIRE MAGAZINE
Bubba Watson is working to add another green jacket to his wardrobe. He’ll hit the course in Augusta wearing a new range of fairway fashions, with hopes of finishing off Sunday’s ensemble with the coveted piece of apparel. Last year’s Masters had the golfer styled in all-white threads from Travis Matthew. He has since switched apparel sponsors, making the move to Oakley. This time around, the Masters have him outfitted in bold hues, stripes and graphics that are as colorful as his personality. After joined the Oakley team, Watson explained:
“Style is important because personality is part of what makes fans connect with golf, especially the new generation of players. Oakley sets the pace. And I need a clothing company that can keep me looking good!”
He doesn’t claim to be a style icon (though he does have an affinity for socks), but the golfer recently spoke to Esquire magazine about his personal style. Below are a few excerpts. For the full interview, read on here.
Esquire.com: OK, so, tell me a little about your personal style.
Bubba Watson: It’s awesome. That was easy. Next question.
ESQ: Seems like Oakley is a good fit for you. They’re sporty, but bold. You must be loving the colors.
BW: Definitely! I like bright colors and it will be a change from last year, where I wore all white on the day I won the tournament. But really, my favorite thing about being linked to Oakley is getting to hang with the cool people, the cool athletes — like the X-Games guys. Those guys play sports where they can really hurt themselves, and, well, I just play golf. I’m like the wimpy guy over here.
ESQ: I saw! You tweet your shoes and socks a lot — and your socks are always so colorful and fun. A real statement sock.
BW: Who doesn’t love a statement sock? I mean, we won’t go in to details, but your underwear has to be bright, too. Oakley is making underwear now and I joked when I was signing this deal — I tweeted something like, “Only reason Oakley wanted me was to be their underwear model. Photo shoot to come soon.”
