ROXY celebrated the launch of the DVF loves ROXY collection with a VIP shopping event at the brand’s boutique in SoHo, NYC last night. The surf and snow lifestyle brand teamed up with fashion house, Diane Von Furstenberg, on a limited-edition line of swimwear and accessories. The special collection includes swimsuits, cover-ups, boardshorts, rash guards and beach bags, priced between $38 and $88. Items merge ROXY’s signature cuts and silhouettes with DVF’s iconic, colorful prints. ROXY surfers Kelia Moniz and Monyca Byrne-Wickey serve as the faces of the collection. A Glam Slam caught up with Kelia and Monyca at the DVF loves ROXY launch party. The girls dished on meeting Diane Von Furstenberg, their picks from the line and their personal style. Check it out:

What was it like to meet an iconic fashion designer like Diane Von Furstenberg?

Monyca Byrne-Wickey: It was really, really cool. We didn’t know what to expect but when we met her, she saw us for a few minutes and she had so many nice things to say about us. We watched her do an interview and everything that came out of her mouth was something that you would want to quote. She’s just really inspiring and she’s done so much. It was awesome to see and meet her.

Diane’s mantra for this collection became “Follow your heart and dare.” Do you have a personal mantra as it relates to surfing or life in general?

Kelia Moniz: I always say to wear a smile because it can always enrich whoever you’re around, it makes everyone around you happy and I just like to see happy people. For me, surfing is all about being happy and spending time with friends who you love and meeting new people. That’s what it’s been for me. So to constantly share a smile with someone else around you, it’s like sharing a little part of our surfing culture.

MBW: I’ve always loved the saying “live and love” because to me it means not only with other people but whatever you do, make sure you’re loving what you do. If you don’t, then move on and find something else that you love because what’s the point of living if you’re not loving every moment.

What are some of your favorite pieces from the DVF loves ROXY collection?

KM: What we did is we took a lot of Roxy’s cuts and took Diane’s awesome prints and put them on our silhouettes. My favorite piece is the tie side bottom with the cinch on the butt and the regular triangle top. My favorite print is the black and white camo.

MBW: My favorite piece is the one-piece. I love the colors and I love the print. It’s really good for surf and it’s really flattering. My second favorite would definitely be the vest. It’s kind of a toss-up, I love the vest with the zip up the front. It’s really sexy and functional at the same time.

So much of your time is spent in the water. What do you look for in your surfwear? Is it a mixture of both style and functionality?

MBW: Yes, it has to have a good combination of them both.

KM: We’re pretty much in the water being tossed around and upside down, so you have to have something that will definitely stay on and hang on to you.

How would you describe your style out of the water?

KM: I like a more edgy, tomboy look. I love blacks, whites and neutral colors. I like looking like a sexy tomboy.

MBW: I love a little bit more of a girly style. I like pastels and florals and I love to wear white. I have a lot of white clothes and light pinks and corals. I just love those colors. They make me feel feminine and cute and I like that feel.
