RUSSELL WESTBROOK TALKS HIS TRENDSETTING STYLE IN VMAN MAGAZINE

Oklahoma City Thunder point guard and NBA fashion maven, Russell Westbrook, is featured in “The Next Gen Issue” of VMAN magazine. Westbrook has quickly gained recognition for pushing boundaries as it relates to his off-court fashion sense. He broke out stylistically during last season’s NBA Playoffs and Finals. His wild wardrobe drew national attention, especially those now infamous red glasses, and put him at the forefront of the league’s “geek-chic” trend.

The magazine caught up with Westbrook at the Barclays Center, following the Thunder’s first game against the Nets in the new arena. In the article titled, “He Got Game,” Westbrook talks about being a fashion trendsetter, his unique new Air Jordan XX8 shoe and pressure to dress up off-court. For the full piece, read on here.

Oklahoma City isn’t known to be the most fashionable place. Where do you shop?
I do it on the road when we go to big cities—New York, L.A. I also do a lot of online shopping from places like TopMan, FarFetch, and Urban Outfitters.

What sort of designers or specific items are you into right now?
Right now I’m really into Paul Smith, but I wear everything. I’m into cutoff jean jackets, leather stuff…

Do other players ever resent you for your style reputation?
They do try to clown on me from time to time, but I don’t pay them any mind. If anything, though, they’re trying to figure me out, to see what I’m going to wear next.

A range of fashion photos accompany the piece, all showcasing his signature specs:
