LIONEL MESSI PICKS A POLKA DOT TUX FOR BALLON D’OR CEREMONY
Lionel Messi accepted his record fourth Ballon d’Or award dressed in a black and white, polka dot patterned tux from Dolce & Gabbana. He scored an incredible 91 goals in 2012 but failed to score sartorially, as the ensemble sparked critiques in the eyes of fashion fans and sports fans. Despite the less than favorable feedback, the Daily Mail’s online fashion editor praised the look here. The publication also described Messi’s outfit in greater detail:
The tailored blazer was designed exclusively for Messi by Dolce and Gabbana, the label with whom he has a sponsorship deal.
It was a one-button black silk tuxedo with white polka dots and black satin lapels, according to the official description.
Messi also wore a tailored vest in black wool with four buttons and a plain white shirt. Out of shot is a tuxedo style trouser with a velvet side trim from the waist down the leg.
The spotted silk jacket is just one of Messi’s risky fashion choices. The Argentine footballer seems partial to unique formal fashions. He accepted last year’s Ballon d’Or award wearing a burgundy velvet blazer. In honor of his latest style statement, Mashable compiled Messi’s “Greatest Moments in Fashion.”
