BASEBALL CAPS GET HIGH FASHION TREATMENT

Baseball caps are no longer reserved for the field. The hats have been popping up on fashion runways from New York to Paris and the fashion industry has embraced the sports-inspired headwear as a lead accessory in everyday wardrobes. In the sports world, the caps are never out of style. Outside the game, the head toppers are making a fashion comeback, becoming the latest “must-have” item in men’s and women’s wear collections.

A recent article in Forbes takes a look at the growth of baseball cap market as it relates to both fashion and sport. When discussing the fashion connection, the article notes:

Speaking of catwalks: the men’s 2012 autumn/winter catwalk collections included baseball caps as key accessories, and one Dior designer featured a baseball cap with each of his 47 outfits during a Paris fashion show. Topman design director, Gordon Richardson, referred to the look as “unapologetically casual and youthful. . . heralding in the new sport-influenced trends that are starting to infiltrate the high street.”

New Era Caps, official on-field cap provider for the NFL and MLB, has taken a cue from these runway trends by adding high-fashion elements to their latest caps. Leather, tweed and snakeskin prints are among the embellishments that accompany team colors and logos. Merging style and sport, the cutting-edge designs allow fans to make a major league style statement.
