NY RANGER CARL HAGELIN IS BERGDORF’ GOODMAN’S “SOLE MAN”
To celebrate the opening of Bergdorf Goodman’s new Men’s Shoe Library earlier this Fall, the retailer selected a few men of New York to try out some of the footwear. New York Ranger Carl Hagelin was among those chosen for the task. His shoe shopping experience was chronicled in the “Sole Man” series on Bergdorf’s “5th at 58th” blog.
The NHL lockout has afforded players plenty of time to engage in off-ice activities and for several of the Rangers, that has involved fashion endeavors. Brad Richards recently signed on as the face of men’s clothing brand, UNTUCKit, and Henrik Lundqvist participated in Mr. Porter’s “The Way I Dress” feature. Hagelin is quickly joining the ranks of his style-conscious teammates.
He admitted that Lundqvist “is obviously the best dressed guy on the team.” Like the Rangers goalie, Hagelin’s sense of style has evolved since being in New York. When he’s home in Sweden, he tends to lean towards more European, tighter fits, while choosing roomier, more comfortable styles when in the U.S. He told 5th at 58th:
“I’m starting to pay better attention to what I wear, as the shopping in NYC is insane. Really in to brands like J. Lindeberg, Hugo Boss & Burberry right now. And I went to my first fashion show this last season, Joseph Abboud, which was great — a lot of color, which I like.”
At the Men’s Library, Carl tried out several Florsheim by Duckie Brown shoes and was able to choose a pair from the collection. He opted for navy suede and patent leather shoes, called the Saddle. Esquire magazine was on-hand for the shopping trip and got him to explain his footwear decision:
“I love blue, so I can definitely see me wearing these with my navy suits — like this Joseph Abboud one I’m wearing now — but also dark jeans, with a chunky sweater and scarf. Anything, really. They’re pretty versatile and will definitely dress up any look.”
