TYSON CHANDLER TALKS FASHION WEEK EXPERIENCE IN VOGUE MAGAZINE
Following in the footsteps of Tom Brady, Roger Federer and his teammate, Amar’e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler is among the fashion-forward pro athletes who have caught the attention of Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. Together with his wife Kimberly, the New York Knicks center attended the Met Gala this Fall, one of fashion’s biggest events of the year. Wintour personally picked out Kimberly’s attire for the evening and the magazine documented the couple as they got red carpet ready. Chandler’s Waraire Boswell tux and Paul Smith bow tie for the event also landed him on Vogue’s 2012 Met Gala Best Dressed list.
The December issue of the magazine takes another opportunity to document the fashion endeavors of this “Dream Team.” The couple were front row fixtures at New York Fashion Week back in September, where they took in a variety of shows from Altuzzara to Alexander Wang. The magazine’s article, titled “Game On,” highlights the Chandler’s Fashion Week experience and includes their commentary immediately following the shows. Tyson is pictured in the piece wearing a black Rick Owens t-shirt, cropped pants and Esquivel shoes, a look that had fashion fans and sports fans talking when he was first seen in the ensemble. Chandler doesn’t let the critiques or his height hinder his sense of style and his post-show thoughts prove he has a vested interest in the world fashion.
Commenting on the Boy. by Band of Outsiders Spring 2013 collection, he explained to Vogue:
“He’s [Scott Sternberg, the label’s designer] paying a lot of attention to lighting, to everything. They look like warriors in beautiful clothing.”
Tyson’s interest in men’s clothing is matched by an interest in female attire. When discussing what he likes on a woman, the magazine notes:
“Tyson admires understated designs: ‘I love that on a woman – when she’s not trying too hard, but she’s showing off her natural curves.'”
