BREWERS INVITE FANS TO DESIGN TEAM’S SPRING TRAINING UNIFORM
Sports fans are not only passionate about their team’s style of play but also their style of dress, and they are often very vocal when it comes to team uniforms. Numerous fan-created concepts can be found online, where uniform enthusiasts put their own stamp on team fashions. Despite their best efforts, fans don’t typically have a say in the design process.
But the Milwaukee Brewers are letting fans play the role of fashion designer, as they seek help in choosing the team’s Spring Training style. Dubbed the “Design a YOUniform” contest, the team has asked fans to submit a creative design for an alternate Brewers jersey and cap. Templates include a blank jersey and blank hat that can be filled in digitally or by hand.
All submitted designs will be reviewed by an internal Brewers committee that will narrow the submissions to four finalists. On Tuesday, January 15 at 10 a.m. CT, those four finalists will be announced on Brewers.com and a fan vote will open online. In addition to the fan vote, a panel of voters including Brewers pitcher John Axford, Brewers President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Doug Melvin and Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger will judge the finalists.
The winner will receive a trip to Brewers Spring Training 2013 to see the entire team wear their design on the field in a game. The hats and uniforms from the winning design will be worn by all Brewers players and coaches at the Friday, March 22nd Spring Training game against the Chicago Cubs.
“People have great ideas for how they would design an alternate uniform for the team, and this is the ultimate opportunity for everyone to have their say,” said Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. “Participants can pick their favorite colors, original logos, and script, or they can utilize elements of the Brewers current uniforms with their own unique twist. It’s literally a blank template and a chance for everyone to show off their creative sides.”
