JAY-Z’S LIMITED-EDITION CARTER #4 BROOKLYN NETS JERSEY UP FOR AUCTION
The Brooklyn Nets will hit the hardwood in new on-court fashions as part of the team’s inaugural season. The Nets have revamped their gametime wardrobe, abandoning the team’s previous red, silver and blue color scheme in favor of black and white hues. Team co-owner, Jay-Z, had a hand in developing the designs which are meant to “fuse adidas’ on-court innovations with premium men’s fashion,” and “reinforce Brooklyn’s strong and confident identity and the borough’s hometown pride.”
The team will wear white home jerseys and black away jerseys this season. The adidas threads feature ‘Brooklyn’ across the front and a herringbone tape running vertically along the sides, matching the Nets’ herringbone-designed court at Barclays Center. The Brooklyn Nets, adidas and Jay-Z also collaborated to create an exclusive Brooklyn Nets licensed collection, from official uniforms and on-court gear to stylish jackets, tees and hats for men, women and children at all price points. The merchandise has already proven to be a top-seller.
To celebrate the opening of the Nets’ new home, Jay-Z performed a series of concerts at Barclays Center sporting a special version of the team’s jersey. The “Carter #4” jerseys were originally up for sale but have since sold out. For fans still looking to snag one, 10 limited-edition “Carter #4” Nets jerseys, autographed by Jay-Z, will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the Shawn Carter Foundation. The auction will go live on Auctions.NBA.com beginning Wednesday, Oct. 17 for a period of two weeks ending Wednesday, Oct. 31.
During the sold-out Brooklyn shows, Jay-Z announced “I believe everybody in the world is born with genius level talent. Apply yourself to whatever you’re genius at and you can do anything in the world.” His mission through the Shawn Carter Foundation is to help individuals facing socio-economic hardships further their education at institutions of higher learning. Since 2003, the Foundation has distributed more than $1.4M in scholarship awards to help needy scholars across the nation and all of the proceeds from this auction will support the advancement of the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.
The Brooklyn Nets home opener will take place on November 1st, against the New York Knicks.
