The league has made a concerted effort to target female fans over the past few years, as evidenced by the NFL’s dedicated women’s apparel campaign. Gameday attire continues to evolve to appeal to fashion fans and football fans alike. NFL legend and former New York Giants LB, Carl Banks, understands the strong demand for team gear that is both fashion-forward and functional. His G-III 4Her collection of licensed ladies apparel caters to a wide range of women looking to showcase their team spirit.

Launched on HSN on Labor Day, Banks’ new G-III 4Her line covers the top teams in the NFL and includes a range of sports/lounge wear like t-shirts, sweatshirts, baseball tees and sweatpants, priced from $19.95-$49.95. The G-III 4Her collection embodies a woman’s passion for sports both on and off-the-field, enabling her to wear her team colors loud and proud for every game of the season.

To help promote the new gear, G-III 4Her has recruited a variety of brand ambassadors who are close to the game. You’ve been in the business of designing fan gear for quite awhile. How have you seen female fan fashions evolve?

The evolution of female fan fashion came 3 years ago when companies like ours began to design silhouettes that were female trend specific in both fabric and aesthetics. Historically companies viewed sports fashion for females with pink and light blue men’s garments that were sized down to fit women, no changes to accentuate the female body type. There was no regard for what was trending in mainstream fashion for her.

The female NFL fan base is very diverse. How do you ensure that the G-III 4Her gear appeals to all women, from the casual fans to hardcore fans to style-consious fans?

We invest in trend shopping and forecasts. We source the fabrics that apply in juniors and missy fashion.

What changes/updates will we see in this year’s collection as compared to last year?

We have expanded beyond the basics incorporating fabrics like tri blends, burnout, slubbing, french terry, sueded jersey fleece, soft hand inks, sequins, dip dye, enzyme washes etc. Last year our focus was on getting the silhouettes correct with basic fabrics and feminine graphics. We offer product that can transition her from the game to dinner, just add a blazer.

Are there any specific pieces/styles that you’ve found to be most successful among the female fans?

We have had early success with combo fabrics on tops. Slub and tri blend combos. We offer 2 styles of bottoms, yoga style lounge pants, and traditional French Terry seat pants as well as Capri styles.

How much input do you have in the design process?

I participate in every phase of the process, from “Mind to Market.” I lead every concept team meeting. I approve all fabrications and graphics.

How/why did you decide to bring NFL wives/girlfriends/sisters on board as brand ambassadors? Did they have any input in the design process?

I wanted to incorporate the NFL WIVES as ambassadors this year because they are a true reflection of the diverse lifestyles our customers live. They entertain on game day, they are mothers, and they also have different body types. Not to mention they are aspirational women.

What’s your favorite thing to see a woman wear on gameday?

Anything GIII 4Her…lol I love to see sexy tops on gameday. Burnouts and Tri-Blends are my favorites. I hate women in men’s tshirts and Jerseys.

Transitioning to football, what’s your take on the Giants’ chances this year? Could we see a return trip to the Super Bowl?

I like the Giants chances to return to the playoffs because they have the experience and a very good QB.

A Glam Slam also spoke with G-III 4Her Ambassadors, Jada Hall (wife of DeAngelo Hall – Washington Redskins) and Julie Dorenbos (wife of Jon Dorenbos – Philadelphia Eagles) about their role as brand ambassadors and their gameday style. Check it out:

As an NFL wife, you must attend/watch many games throughout the season. How do you keep your gameday style fresh?

Jada Hall: For me staying up to date with what’s in and out of style can be overwhelming. Not only am I taking care of 5 kids, but I’m taking care of my husband, the bills, and my home. Finding time to go shopping is few far in-between. I’m so lucky to have a friend like Renee Reese who is always there for me especially when it comes to fashion. She is the one who styled all the women you saw on HSN for the G-III fashion wear. She’s great at what she does, which shows, because we all looked fabulous!!! I definitely plan on using her idea’s for both on and off gamedays.

Julie Dorenbos: I believe that fashion does cross paths with football. My game day style is one that can transition from tailgating in the morning, to cheering in the stands in the afternoon, and out for celebratory drinks at night. I love pairing the GIII-4Her shirts with leggings and boots, and when the weather gets a bit chillier I will add a cute leather jacket or puffy vest. Also, jewelry is a great way to accessorize your game day outfit. If I am wearing the v-neck tee, I will add bangles and a necklace or if I’m going with the long sleeve thermal shirt I will opt for hoops or drop earrings.

What does your role as a G-III 4Her ambassador include?

JH: My role as an ambassador for G-III includes promoting the great clothing wear. Advertising thru print, tv, campaigns, and on game day.

JD: My role of a G-III 4Her ambassador was to appear on HSN for the launch of Carl Banks new line, as well as promote the collection through the local Philadelphia market. I began by working with Stylist, Renee Reese, to discuss and come up with various options for the airing of the team apparel on HSN. Immediately, I loved how the clothing was both comfy and chic. While Renee and I went through my closet I realized my favorite part of the line is how completely interchangeable the collection is making it simple to come up with an assortment of looks! This season marks my husband’s 10th year in the NFL with the past 7 being with the Philadelphia Eagles. It is an honor to be chosen to represent the “G-III 4Her” brand while wearing the Philadelphia Eagles logo.

What makes the G-III 4Her line different from other fan gear options?

JH: What makes G-III different is the style of the sports wear. Lots of companies make your favorite football team shirts, the only difference is G-III is cute, comfortable, and fashionable!!!! The women’s clothing line in this department has been in need of cute clothes. I’m just thankful Carl Banks took the time to design for women such great stuff.

JD: As a GIII-4Her brand ambassador I believe the combination of comfort, fashionable design, and quality of fabric sets the collection a part from others. Although there are other team apparel options for fans, this line was created and designed with HER in mind. Long gone are the days that the female fans have to sacrifice style to be sporty and comfortable to be fashionable.

Can you share some of your top picks from the new collection?

JD: While I love all the pieces of the collection I have two favorites! No one can go wrong with the Rivalry Triblend Tee. It’s supersoft with a flirty v-neck, a must-have in everyone’s closet! The other “cannot-live-without” item from the collection is the Tailgate 4Her ¾ Sleeve Tee. This vintage, baseball-style tee, with distressed print is super-cute by itself or layered for an alternate option. I will proudly be sporting my GIII-4Her top picks on gameday and beyond!

Female fans nowadays are looking for team gear that is versatile. Do you have any tips on transitioning your fan gear from gameday to everyday?

JH: Being versatile is so important!! That way you definitely get your money’s worth. I like the fact that you can wear one of the t-shirts to a game with skinny jeans and flats… and if you want to go out after the game all you need to do is put on your heels!!!! You can dress the shirts up or down, what ever your personal preference is. This is just one more reason that G-III is great for all us female fans!!!!

JD: Whether you’re at the stadium on Sunday, running errands during the day or with friends for a night out on the town, it’s fun to be Football-chic always!
