ALTERNATE UNIFORM SHOWDOWN: WISCONSIN VS. NEBRASKA
In an effort to keep pace with college football’s ever-evolving fashion landscape, a growing number of squads are putting a unique spin on their uniforms. When Wisconsin and Nebraska battle on September 29th, both teams will be styled in new adidas TECHFIT gear. This contest marks adidas’ first Unrivaled Game, an annual matchup of top adidas programs. This year’s game between the Badgers and Cornhuskers has been dubbed “The Quick and the Red.”
The Badgers’ new threads are meant to pay homage to the team’s heritage, while utilizing a modern design. According to the school’s website:
The use of the “block W” harkens back to the days of Wisconsin’s 1962 Big Ten championship team, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this fall. That team wore the “block W” on their helmets and went on to play USC in the 1963 Rose Bowl, one of the most famous bowl games of all time.
Wisconsin’s red helmet featuring a black face mask and white “W” and the team’s adizero Smoke gloves showcasing the “W” logo pay homage to Badger pride. The reflective black uppers of the team’s adizero cleats combined with the red electro-plated bottom, will bring a bright and exciting look to Wisconsin’s footwear during their Unrivaled Game.
Nebraska’s alternate uniforms were created with a similar concept in mind, highlighting the school’s history while incorporating modern updates:
The uniform is head-to-toe red and showcases a bold black “N” on the chest, player numbers above the heart and black stripes on the jersey shoulders and side of pants. The team’s black adidas TECHFIT compression base layer features a tonal letter “N” on the sleeves to complete the look.
Nebraska’s black helmet honors the program’s Blackshirts legacy and features a red stripe and block “N.” The Cornhuskers’ adizero Smoke gloves feature the “N” logo and the team’s reflective black adizero cleats combined with the red -plated bottom will bring a bright and exciting look to Nebraska’s footwear during their Homecoming night game.
In addition to the aesthetic updates, each team’s gear will feature adidas technologies including a streamlined fit, new fabric, reduced seams and an ultra lightweight name and numbering system. The TECHFIT jersey are meant to keep players cool and reduced seams and a restriction-free, high-stretch collar design will increase range of motion to support player agility and speed.
