NFL WOMEN’S APPAREL ADS TO FEATURE HIGH-FASHION & FAMOUS FEMALE FACES
This Fall, the NFL will launch the latest installment of its women’s apparel campaign. The league has made great strides in its effort to develop fashion-forward fan gear, allowing females suit up in their team colors while maintaining their sense of style. The 2010 season marked the debut of “NFL Women’s Apparel, Fit For You,” the first time the league dedicated a campaign to its female offerings. Last year’s campaign expanded to include additional clothing and accessory items, as well as an established digital home at NFL.com/women. The upcoming NFL season is just a few months away as is the latest round of apparel ads.
In the past, wives and daughters of the league’s coaches, players and owners were featured in the campaign. A variety of famous female faces have been added to the roster this time around, including Melania Trump, former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, Olympic swimmer, Summer Sanders, DJ Kiss, Susie Castillo and “Dancing with the Stars” pros Kym Johnson and Peta Murgatroyd. Murgatroyd and her partner, Green Bay Packer Donald Driver, are the show’s most recent champions.
Season three of the women’s apparel campaign, dubbed “It’s My Team,” was shot a Pier 59 Studios by Daniel Jackson and styled by Tiina Laakkonen. The ads will merge the new team gear with high-end fashions, as in NFL tees paired with Jimmy Choo heels, Christian Louboutin stilettos, Birkin bags and other Hermes accessories.
The NFL’s director of apparel, Rhiannon Madden, said of the campaign: “We want to show that you can be a fan by what you wear to work, going to the gym or out at night with girlfriends. It’s also a message of empowerment. It’s your team — not your guy’s team.” (Source, WWD)
With the help of Suzanne Johnson, wife of Jets owner Woody Johnson and ambassador for the NFL women’s apparel line, female fans will also be treated to a special designer collaboration this season.
Johnson asked another fan, Harvey Weinstein, to recruit his Marchesa-designing wife Georgina Chapman to whip up a limited-edition shirt for the league. That will make its debut during the NFL’s two weeks of kickoff festivities in New York planned around the Sept. 5 New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys opener. (Source, WWD)
