RIVERA, GRANDERSON LAUNCH YANKEES FRAGRANCE AT MACY’S
Earlier this year, the New York Yankees joined the fragrance game scoring two official team scents, a first for a professional sports team. Yankees closer, Mariano Rivera, and center fielder, Curtis Granderson, have been tapped as brand ambassadors. The teammates visited Macy’s Herald Square yesterday, the first of many scheduled appearances, to pitch the new fragrance to fans. When asked about the cologne, Rivera told the New York Times, it was “fresh and clean” and “breezy, masculine, very classic.”
According to the brand, the New York Yankees fragrance “epitomizes the winning style of the greatest team in baseball, capturing a sporty and confident attitude,” while New York Yankees For Her is “a fun, inviting scent that captures the playful spirit of the Yankees girl.”
Deadspin also assembled a panel of experts to break down the smell of the Bronx Bombers. Included in the group was Nick Axelrod, senior fashion news editor at Elle, who offered some colorful commentary on the new scent: “There’s a Sex And The City episode where Carrie gets with the Yankee. This scent epitomizes that scene in Sex and the City. She gets the Yankee phone number. This is the smell of that moment. This is the smell that mingled between her Nina Ricci and his Polo—whatever a Yankee wears.” You can check out the full piece here.
Hoping to capitalize on the success of the fragrances, a range of scented products including team-themed body lotions, body sprays, lip gloss and scented candles are on deck for launch. View the full collection here.
