NIKE UNVEILS HYPER ELITE PLATINUM COLLEGE HOOPS UNIS
After a college football season that was filled with sartorial highs and lows, college hoops style is now taking center stage. Today Nike unveiled the Hyper Elite Platinum series, a set of innovative new uniforms designed to pay tribute to universities who have reached “elite” status in the game. The specially created short and jersey combinations will be worn during select games this season. The uniforms were developed for nine NCAA Championship teams that acheived their victories while wearing Nike footwear and apparel. The universities set to debut the Nike Hyper Elite Platinum threads include: Arizona, Baylor (women’s), Duke, Florida, Kentucky, Syracuse, Connecticut (men’s and women’s) and North Carolina.
From a design standpoint, the uniform feature a gray (“platinum”) base, accented with each schools’ colors. The gear evokes a futuristic vibe through laser-cut logos, reflective letters and numbers, and sublimated graphics on the backs of jerseys, featuring oversized school logos. Players’ names are also positioned below uniform numbers and stars are used to denote past championships. According to the brand, the lightweight uniforms were designed to enhance performance and lower environmental impact as well:
“The fabric of the Nike Hyper Elite Platinum shorts are made from 100 percent recycled polyester while the jersey fabric is made from at least 96% recycled polyester. Both short and jersey are tailored for the optimal efficiency of movement and are five percent lighter than the previous Nike Hyper Elite uniform.”
The new on-court apparel will hit the hardwood on the following dates: UConn vs. Notre Dame (1/29), Kentucky vs. Tennessee (1/31), Duke vs. Maryland (2/11), Baylor (women’s) vs. Texas A&M (2/11), Florida vs. Tennessee (2/11), Syracuse vs. USF (2/22), Arizona vs. UCLA (2/25), UConn (women’s) vs. Notre Dame (2/27) and UNC vs. Maryland (2/29).
