5 QUESTIONS WITH SNOWBOARDER KELLY CLARK AT THE BURTONGIRLS.COM LAUNCH
A Glam Slam recently joined Burton Snowboards to celebrate the brand’s new women’s lifestyle site, BurtonGirls.com, set to launch later this month. The for-women-by-women site will include fashion, beauty, travel and additional features from contributors such as actress, Joy Bryant, DJ, Jasmine Solano and the Burton Girls themselves, top female riders Hannah Teter, Kelly Clark, Gabi Viteri and Linn Haug. The new online resource will also showcase the latest female apparel and accessory offerings from the brand, making it a one-stop destination for women, especially those who truly appreciate the snowboarding lifestyle. A Glam Slam hung out with pro snowboarder Kelly Clark at the BurtonGirls.com launch party to chat about the new site and her involvement with the brand. Here’s what she had to say:
What is the idea behind BurtonGirls.com?
This month a new website is launching for Burton and it’s going to be all about girls. It’s going to be a resource and an outlet for women to connect to the sport of snowboarding like we haven’t had before.
How long have you been with the Burton brand and what is your role/involvement in the design process?
I’ve been riding for Burton now for about 13 years, so a really long time. Burton is an amazing company because we as riders are more involved in the actual product than any other company. Everything that Burton makes has been inspired, or at least tried by us before it gets to the consumer. So everything from how the fabric is, staying warm, staying dry, the function, the fashion and even to the placement of pockets, it’s all been tested so by the time it gets to the consumer, it’s the best product out there.
What are some of your favorite pieces to compete in?
I ride the Burton women’s line and one thing I really like about the line is that there are three different fits so every sort of girl can have their own style and their expression on the hill. There’s “slim fit,” there’s “team fit,” and there’s “boyfriend fit,” so no matter what your style is, you’re going to get a great product that is fully functional but also looks good.
Since we are celebrating the launch of BurtonGirls.com and you’re someone who has had success from an early age, what advice do you have for young females who are looking to succeed in the sport?
You know, I think for any up-and-coming snowboarders I would say keep it fun. I think that’s why I started snowboarding and that’s why I still do it today and it’s what has enabled me to still enjoy it, even at Winter ’22.
What’s next for you as far as competition is concerned?
I’m just about to start my season. Right after Thanksgiving I’ll be on the road until April. Some of the big events this year, we’ve got X-Games, we’ve got World Championships, but ultimately I’m thinking in four year increments so hopefully in Sochi in two years, you’ll see me there.
