SEAN AVERY TALKS STYLE AS HE GETS DRESSED FOR MR. PORTER
We all put our pants on one leg at a time right? Sure. But what about the rest of the process? For New York Ranger Sean Avery, it’s a very, very slow one, at least for the purposes of his “The Way I Dress” video. He’s the latest to appear in the series, which is featured on Mr. Porter’s Journal. Mr. Porter is a luxury-goods website and the men’s version of popular Net-a-Porter site for women. In addition to product offerings, the site also includes profiles of men and special videos such as this one.
As Avery showed us his dressing process, he also dished on how he makes his style choices. For the Rangers winger, the worlds of fashion and sports merge quite often. The cities he’s played in have impacted his sartorial decisions. Within the video, Avery reveals that everything changed from a fashion perspective when he started playing professional hockey. While with the Detroit Red Wings, teammates Steve Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan greatly influenced Avery’s style. “No matter where they went, they always looked impeccable,” he said.
In California, Avery followed his own path, always trying to blend in designers he liked while keeping it casual. But it was the move to New York that really helped him to find his fashion identity. “When you walk into Madison Square Garden every night, it gives you this feeling like there’s something very special going on here [in New York] and I always try to have my clothes reflect that.” Overall, a clean, simple look with very little color and a good fit would characterize Avery’s style.
