TOMMY HILFIGER RETURNS TO FAIRWAY FASHION DESIGN
Tommy Hilfiger is once again lending his design expertise to the sport of golf. Hilfiger has signed an agreement with Fletcher Leisure Group in Montreal, Canada, to develop a line of golf apparel for both men and women. The collection will be available in Spring 2012 in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
The all-American designer’s preppy aesthetic has always been a great fit for the sport. Hilfiger had originally launched men’s golf wear in 1994, followed by women’s golf wear six years later, but the golf collection has only been available in Europe since 2007.
“Golf represents the ultimate prep lifestyle, and we are excited to expand our presence in the performance area,” Hilfiger said. “Our golf collection is inspired by the integrity and tradition of the sport. We’ve added a twist to the classics through an innovative use of fabrics and details, delivering performance, comfort and style in golf sportswear that can be worn on and off the course.”
The new collection will include four groups: Core, Cape Cod, St. Barth’s and Cape Town. Expect to see a variety of styles from plaids, seersucker stripes and grosgrain details in the Cape Cod line, to bold stripes and pops of color in the St. Barth’s line. Items will also incorporate fabrics to help enhance performance, with benefits such as moisture-wicking capabilities and anti-odor properties.
Targeting male and female golfers ages 25-40, the collection will offer approximately 100 styles for men ranging in price from $65 for short-sleeved polos to $120 outerwear options. The women’s collection will include approximately 75 styles with prices ranging from $65 for bermudas and polos to $120 for knits and outerwear.
