WILLIAMS SISTERS RETURN TO WIMBLEDON IN GRAND FASHION: A WHITE ROMPER & TIE-DYE PANTS
Wimbledon has only just begun yet the Williams sisters are already making headlines for their tennis ensembles. A series of injuries have kept Venus and Serena out of the game but they’ve both returned in full force on the grass court and on the fashion front.
Venus made an impressive start to her Wimbledon run defeating Uzbekistan’s Akgul Amanmuradova in straight sets, though the talk once again centered on her style of dress not her style of play. In keeping with the All England Club’s all-white dress code, she sported a white romper from her own line, EleVen. Small gold details and accessories dressed up Venus’ outfit. At first glance, the embroidered white-on-white pattern and gold zippers seemed elegant and simple when compared to the loud, flashy attire that we’ve come to expect from Venus. But the baggy top half actually featured a cutaway-back, a look we are definitely not used to seeing on the tennis court. The short shorts also revealed gold hotpants underneath which were visible whenever Venus moved around the court.
“It’s a jumper,” Williams said. “Jumpers are very ‘now,’ as is lace. The shoulders have a lot of draping. It’s a kind of trendy dress. It’s fun. The back is a like a cutout or peekaboo. I’m always trying to do something different and fun.
Serena could never let Venus take all of the fashion spotlight, especially since she is also making a long awaited return to Grand Slam play. During her warm-ups, the tennis star was spotted in a simple, white long sleeved tee and bold pink and white tie-dye leggings from her Nike sponsor. While they still make a major style statement, A Glam Slam thinks this look is actually more subdued for the tennis fashionista. After all, the last time Serena was spotted practicing she was wearing this.
