MARAT SAFIN’S INSTYLE RUSSIA GLAMOUR SHOTS
Marat Safin, former Russian tennis star, was known for his incredible style of play and his colorful personality. Safin’s final tournament as a professional was the 2009 Paris Masters and it looks likes he’s been spending his post-tennis days refining his modeling skills. Safin sported a variety of men’s fashions for a spread in the May issue of InStyle Russia.
Accompanying the fashion spread was a Q&A where Safin discussed his tennis career, his take on relationships and his clothing style. According to an article translation, here’s an idea of what he had to say about his personal style and his thoughts on women’s clothes:
Q: Do you buy clothes yourself?
Yes, and only when I have to. Today I liked a raincoat we used in the photoshoot, a brown one. I’ll go get one like that now. The most important thing is to be comfortable and to fit the occasion. One cannot go on a meeting with Putin, wearing torn jeans. It’s also important to be cheap. Here everything is unreasonably expensive, that’s why I buy clothes from the USA.
Do pay attention to girls’ clothes?
I like girls who are dressed simply and without tons of make-up. And there is no need to fix the hair in a special style. I don’t like it, when at 10 in the morning, the girl looks like, as if she’s going to a ball. Why would you need high heels all day? Unnecessary things should not be worn! Jeans, Converse, all is simple and nice. Not the clothes make the man, but the personality.
The spread, which was shot by Erez Sabag, proved that Safin can look great in just about anything, even a black and white striped cowl neck top. A shirt and skinny tie, a brown trench and a simple hoodie are some of the other fashions that Marat shows off in the magazine. Here’s a look at his InStyle glam shots:
