NBA PLAYERS VOTE DWYANE WADE STYLE MVP
“Always follow your own fashion instincts, let your personality reflect in how you dress. It’ll make you feel better about yourself.” – Dwyane Wade
Since the beginning of his career, Dwyane Wade has always been recognized for his sartorial splendor. He is a style-setter not only in the NBA, but among all athletes. From casual attire to Red Carpet events, Wade is constantly pushing fashion boundaries. And it’s not just what he wears but how he wears it that has helped to cement his status as a style icon.
His suits are always perfectly tailored and he certainly knows how to rock a sweater vest. We’ve seen him wearing every color of the spectrum at one time or another. Bold accessories such as thick-framed glasses, embellished pocket squares and fedoras have become his signature style markers, adding that extra bit of flair to each ensemble. He even managed to turn a band aid into a trend (a fashion statement that has since been banned by the league).
The basketball star’s favorite labels include Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Gucci. In fact, Wade wears so much Gucci, they actually have his credit card number on file for quick, no-hassle purchases. His affinity for high end designers such as these have landed him on countless best-dressed lists. In 2010, Forbes named him on of the year’s best-dress athletes. GQ awarded him that same honor back in 2006 and in 2007, he was one of Esquire’s best-dressed men in the world.
This time around it is Wade’s NBA peers who have voted him MVP in the style game. A poll in this week’s issue of Sports Illustrated asked this question to 137 players: “Who has the best fashion sense off the court?” Wade topped the list by garnering 29 percent of the votes, followed by Kobe Bryant (13 percent) and LeBron James (11 percent). Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony rounded out the top five.
So what makes Wade the fashion favorite? Here’s a look at some of his standout styles:
