NY FASHION WEEK SPORTS THIS SEASON’S HOTTEST LOOKS
Often touted as the “Super Bowl” of Fashion, NYC was invaded by celebrities, models, fashion icons and yes, athletes, to celebrate Merecedes Benz Spring 2010 Fashion Week. With so many sports stars jumping on the designing bandwagon, it’s no surprise that some of the hottest designers have also begun to showcase
athletic-inspired fashions on the runways, including one of Glam Gal’s absolute favorites – Alexandar Wang.
An MVD (Most Valuable Designer) at this year’s Fashion Week, Wang’s models sported some of the biggest trendsetting looks. The sportswear inspiration was evident in his runway show, from the varsity letterman sweaters and baseball shorts to sweatshirts with leather shoulder pads resembling American football apparel.
And here’s the lowdown on the Spring 2010 trends from some classic sportswear favorites: Lacoste and Y-3.
The Spring Collection from Lacoste was cheerful and youthful featuring crisp white, navy and sunny yellow fashions. The leisurely looks for men and women could easily serve a double function from a day on the court to a night out.
Y-3 played soccer on the runway, literally. Designer Yohji Yamamoto and French soccer icon Zinedine Zidane kicked around a ball as they concluded the show that unveiled a Spring/Summer collection honoring the upcoming FIFA 2010 World Cup. The line featured modern styles with a lot of mesh and colors that came from the teams that will compete in South Africa next Summer.
